What is Suboxone/Buprenorphine?

Buprenorphine is a prescription medication designed to ease the withdrawal symptoms from opiates. Buprenorphine produces an agonist effect that enables opioid-addicted individuals to discontinue the misuse of opioids. Physician Paul Thomas is licensed to prescribe buprenorphine for opiate detoxification.

What happens when I call Fair Start?

You will speak with an intake counselor who will explain Fair Start's detoxification process. Fair Start does a comprehensive evaluation for detoxification that includes lab work, a nursing assessment, physical examination, and a drug/alcohol assessment. The entire process is under the direction of Physician Paul Thomas.

How long is the detoxification process?

Depending on the substance that you are withdrawing from, an individualized program will be developed for you. The detoxification process varies by the extent of your chemical use.Detox can range from 1 week to 3 months.

What else do I need to know about the detoxification process?

Please bring in a list of the current medications (prescribed, over-the-counter, vitamins and herbs) you are taking so the nurse practitioner can review them with you during your evaluation. You will need to have someone drive you to and from Fair Start’s office for the first two days of your detox to ensure you are tolerating the detoxification medications.
